Online security

Continuing with security this week - will review public key encryption then it's over to you... 4 groups checking out digital signatures/certificates, secure sockets, proxy servers and firewalls then sharing their findings.
What do these icons mean and can you find others yourself? (post comments please!)

1 comment:

  1. John & Sam on Digital Signatures & Certificates: "like how you write your signature on paper, a digital signature is what you put on an email to say who you are"; "it's a stamp that's unique to the sender - hard to copy"

Pawel on secure sockets: "a protocol to ensure that data is transferred securely, mainly uses TCP"

Calvin on proxy servers: "a server that goes between computers that filters out certain things eg your IP address - can browse internet without using your own IP address". Also restricts what sites are accessible.

Esther & Gordon on firewalls: "software that keeps hackers out of computers, can control/filter information"; "can set restrictions"; can also be hardware
